Sandy Hillyer

about

Dramatic landscapes, atmospheric big skies, wild moorlands, and remote beaches are the inspiration behind Sandy Hillyer's original paintings.

Born in Dublin and a childhood spent in the remote North – West coast of Ireland no doubt influenced a passion for the landscape. While living on the edge of the Peak District in scenic Derbyshire, there can be found a wealth of wild, rugged moorland and incredible big skies to inspire any painter.

A BA (Hons) Fine Art graduate since 2000, from the University of Derby, encouraged to work in a loose style on large canvas; a liberating style after many years of traditional landscape painting. After graduating the use of vibrant colour and textures continued, and experimentation of different mediums led to a preference using acrylic, enabling a swift yet versatile style to emerge.

Having exhibited in many mixed and solo exhibitions, with many paintings in private collections, led to holding watercolour classes on Saga cruises and travelling to nearly every continent, from the Mediterranean to South East Asia.

After having painted in all weathers and diverse locale, now a quick watercolour sketch and some photos for later reference are all that’s needed for working from the comfort of a home studio.
